Auntie Sarah at Last?
Jul. 26th, 2005 11:40 amMy sister went into labor this morning.
She's sort of been in labor all week, with these regular contractions every 8 minutes as long as she was walking, that stopped any time she stopped moving. The emergency room folks took a look at her last week and were unimpressed with her contractions. "These are just practice," they said. "You ain't seen nothin' yet."
So Pru went home with a sense of Mounting Dread. The contractions she already had were Not Fun.
This morning, her water broke, but her contractions are no more impressive than they were before. To save her from being one of those people you hear about who's in heavy labor for three days, her doctors have decided to induce. It seems like a weird use of terms, that they're inducing labor when she's already sort of been in it for several days, but that's okay. I'm sure in doctor-English it's all very precise.
The upshot is, the doctors say to anticipate the new niece/nephew's arrival tonight.
I'm off to Maryland, where I expect to have no access to email. If you need me, call the cell phone.

Date: 2005-07-26 09:50 am (UTC)It does essentially the same thing, it pushes the process along, it just comes later in the process. Many folks, though, hear "pitocin," and think "induce labor."
