A friend who's from France brought her daughters over for a playdate today, and while she was at it, she brought a spectacular quiche. After she left, Dan declared that she must have "studied Julia Childs's Mastering the Art of French Cooking in the original Klingon."

I wish there were any way to convey the depth of that compliment to her, but I'm not sure it can be translated it out of Geek.

The French don't have geeks?

Surely they must have geeks, but the friend in question is non-geeky. We met at a moms' group, so mostly we have parenting stuff in common.

She was from an Undiscovered Country.

Well based on that I am totally convinced she is an awesome cook...

Personally, I can't get over my disappointment that that super high tech language company, the one that begins with an R, does not offer Klingon or Elvish...

If they come to believe there's a market for Klingon and/or Elvish, I'm sure they'll do it. You could start a letter-writing campaign.

Your husband's witty compliments are legendary. I still smile over what he said, as he watched me, Jeni, Marsha and Joy unroll our sleeping bags onto your dining room floor years ago: "At last! My mail-order harem has arrived!"
