Anniversary Anthropomorphism Runs Amok!

dr_pretentiousSixteen years ago today, Dan and I got married. Coincidentally, sixteen is also how old I was when Dan and I first met. There were several years in between, of course, but the symmetry has my attention today. If our marriage were a person, it would be prepping for the SAT and going on college tours.
Our marriage is actually a lot nicer than I was as a teenager. It's sometimes temperamental, of course, but it's more resilient, better able to tell what's a big deal and what's not, than the average sixteen-year-old is. And parenthood at fourteen has been surprisingly good for it.
So Happy Birthday, marriage. You're doing great.
