I seem to be at my most productive as a writer when there's something completely unrelated to my writing that I want to avoid thinking about.

No surprise, then, that this has been a good week for work. My debut post for the Black Gate blog is all polished up and will probably be online Wednesday. The intro for the anthology is almost done. All the Rugosa Coven and Beltresa projects are jockeying in position to be the next thing I push on.

Oh, and the thing I don't want to think about? Zach's in as lovely a hospice as anyone could wish for, where the hospice workers roll him out, bed and all, to enjoy sunlight and birdsong in the gardens. They're taking good care, too, of my sister and her in-laws, who've been keeping vigil for several days now. The doctors say it'll be a matter of hours, but Zach is not one to be rushed. He refused to let cancer taint Easter for his kids, refused to let cancer take him on Pru's birthday, and then held out for the turn of the calendar month so that his family has another thirty days of great health insurance. It was as if cancer said, April is the cruellest month, and he replied, That's what you think.

Thanks to everyone who has sent us good wishes. They are much appreciated.

I have been thinking about you, and this, on and off this week.

I know what you mean about writing productively as an escape mechanism; odd that, no? But maybe not so very much.

Thank you very much for the work you've been doing for Black Gate. I added those images you requested, and have scheduled it for tomorrow, actually, because that's our highest traffic day and I do believe this essay is very important to all sorts of people.

Take care of yourself.

*hugs*

(Well, if hugs from a total stranger don't squick you. If they do, then,

*respectful handshake and concerned look on face, hopefully slightly more convincing than most local politicians*)

More hugs - and thanks for this post. It's reminded me about hospices, which is useful right now for me.

There's a sentence I absolutely needed to follow up on! I'm so relieved to see on your blog that you're thinking about hospice care for someone other than yourself. Best of luck to you and your friend.

Well, the gates are as wide as they get in this season. I hope his transition is smooth and easy, when it comes. Light and peace to all of you.
