I figured out how to fix the astrological problem in the Ria story. Eventually I found a very efficient way to do it--efficient in terms of preserving what worked in the story as written. The process of finding that efficient fix, however, required that I get neck-deep in the ephemeris and wallow around diagramming possible rearrangements of the plot to see if any new structures worked better than what I had. Was that efficient? Probably not, but at least I'm more confident that large swaths of the manuscript are sound.

Almost done, almost done. Every effing weekend I tell Dan how stunned I will be if it's not finished by Monday, and then every Monday I am stunned.

It's like the dissertation: there's no way of knowing when it will be over until after it ends.

Oh my, that not-done-yet thing sounds so much like the brief I just filed that it's almost scary. It was almost done on Friday -- yet somehow I spent 12 hours working on it yesterday, after putting in 6 or so hours on Saturday. If it didn't need to be the printer by 11am I'm positive I'd have been working on it all day today -- just adding that extra case, or tweaking that paragraph a bit.

And worse? I'd swear that I'm getting muscle cramps from typing and using the mouse so much over the past several days. ::sigh::

Oh -- wait -- yay on fixing the problem! ;)

And no-one else will ever know how long it took to craft it; it will be assumed to have flowed in one graceful sweep from your pen as one elegant, organic whole.
