The editor sent me the illustration that will run alongside "The War the Wheat Berry Year" in the next issue of Black Gate, and it's glorious. The thought that my story put that picture in that artist's head makes me hug myself with glee. I can't wait to be able to show it to you guys. Meanwhile, check out the cover that Malcolm McClinton did for one of the previous issues. When I was in my teens, my mother used to tease me that I would read anything that featured a person with leather bat wings on the cover. Yes, indeed, and apparently I've grown up to be the author I'd have read for pleasure at 13. Victory is mine!

I've been invited to post regularly at the magazine's blog, too, and that kind of blows my mind, since they get 50,000 readers a month over there. Of course I said yes. (In the immortal words of Bill Murray, When someone asks you if you're a god, you say yes!) It'll be interesting to see how I make that work. One of my tutoring students Googled me, and the first thing he said was, "You haven't updated your blog in two weeks?!" The time will come from somewhere. I've got a bunch of posts writing themselves in my head now, and I'm really looking forward to seeing which one coalesces first.
