It's no longer a recurring headache I get most days, off and on. It's now a non-stop headache I wake up with. Throw in achy finger joints and dizzy spells. I have a guess or two about what my doctor will probably conclude. Thursday afternoon, an answer might arise. I'm betting on Lyme.

Plays havoc with my concentration, let me tell you. So far, I can still slide into teacher-mind and give my students the good work they deserve, but I'm not useful for a whole lot else this week. It occurs to me that a moment may come when I won't be able to slide into teacher-mind, either. The moment I'm really hoping doesn't come is a moment when I stop being able to drive.

Dizzy spells probably mean this shouldn't be the week I get back into riding lessons. Damn and blast.

Hope you feel better soon. Lyme disease is a distinct possibility from what you've said. Unfortunately, so are other exotic autoimmune diseases. Does any autoimmune disease run in your family? And just for paranoia's sake, could I suggest a pregnancy test? Pregnancy can have very unexpected symptoms.

My mother's the only one in the family with autoimmune diseases, but she's got...let's see...lupus, sarcoidosis, and rheumatoid arthritis, and some wacky symptoms that the good folks at Bethesda Naval Hospital haven't figured out yet that might point to yet more interesting diagnoses.

A pregnancy test. Hm. That would be the crowning irony, wouldn't it? If after years of grueling infertility treatments, when we finally took a break for insurance bureaucracy, we were to accomplish conception and then mistake it for Lyme disease... I like that story best. Here's hoping.

I'll cross my fingers and press my thumbs for you. Let us know how things come out, if it isn't too invasive?

I won't leave everyone in unnecessary suspense, I promise.
