It took a little longer than usual to finish my weekly post at Black Gate because progress toward publishing the Trafficking in Magic, Magicking in Traffic anthology hit a tipping point this week.

At my students' request, I'm trying to get my head around the canon of classic sports journalism. In addition to learning about the importance of boxing in the 1930s, the state of the magazine business in the 1960s, and the towering cultural legacy of Muhammad Ali, I'm getting more perspective on my own biases.

I mostly see boxing through the lens of traumatic brain injury and the questionable humanity of my own desire to watch a human being bludgeon another into unconsciousness.
