Oof.

I really didn't expect to finish before midnight. I fully expected that I'd be at it until 3am, and that I'd have to write some post about being a one-woman time zone anomaly. If I made it by 2am and could claim a win on mountain time, I was going to title the post "My Own Private Idaho." Drove through a corner of Idaho once, on the way from Jackson Hole to Salt Lake City. Trees, cows, lots of vertical rise, and all the privacy a person could want.

Instead, I'm free right now. I think I'll fold laundry and watch episodes of Deadwood until the caffeine buzz wears off, and in the morning sleep until I wake. No students until 3pm. I don't have to wake in any hurry.

Wooot!

See? You can write something shorter? Unless that's just the prologue.... *ducks*

Well, on the one hand, the story is a long way from complete. On the other hand, almost half of that new 50K is made up of brainstorming notes toward the storytelling, rather than actual storytelling. A lot of the new stuff will get cut or moved to other kinds of files.

I'm sure now that I can bring this one in at under 120K. A friendly acquaintance in the industry tells me the sweet spot is 95K--it's a count that doesn't feel skimpy, but it's also under the three digit mental speed bump. "Think of it as pricing something at $9.99. Everybody knows what those 99 cents mean, but the trick works anyway." So, I aim for 95K now. That'll be tough, but it's not impossible yet.

No prologue, just short interludes between chapters.
