Home again, very tired, and optimistic. The trick will be getting a person who's had access to the military medical system throughout her adult life to brave the civilian medical system. I can't blame my mother for putting things off longer than she should have. It's hard enough to fight the insurers when you're accustomed to it. Imagine having to do it for the first time at the age of 55, while sick.

It looks like I'll be renewing my intimate automotive acquaintance with I-95 this summer, but at least we're out of emergency mode. Thanks for all the good wishes.

Hurray that the immediate crisis is over. Best of luck to your parents.

I wish I had been able to check my LJ so I could have wished all the best earlier. I'm glad that she is out of immediate danger and wish her health. I'm sorry about your renewal with travelling I-95, although I don't think I have been on it so far south. I hope it at least isn't too far of a drive...

Thanks for your kind wishes. It's about four hours each way--could be worse. One benefit is that I'll be able to combine seeing my parents with seeing my sister who lives 5 miles away and is due to have her first baby in August. It's hard to be gloomy in immediate proximity to a much-desired and healthy impending baby.
