The Voice Of Common Sense, That's Me
Mar. 19th, 2007 11:15 pmDan and I just watched Word Wars, the documentary about Scrabble championships and the flat broke, anagram-obsessed people who try to make careers of winning them. It's a delightful documentary. Everyone should rush straight to Netflix to get it.
After a scene in which one of the Scrabble guys talks about how the game is the only thing he does with his whole day, and he hopes someday that the world will support professional Scrabble players the way it supports professional golfers, Dan turned to me and said, "Thank goodness you decided to pursue a nice practical career like writing fantasy novels." He wasn't even being facetious. I'm not inclined to protest, since I spent the whole film thinking much the same thing.
