Yesterday, I finally figured out what the new Rugosa story is actually about. And I've only been poking at it for, what, three or four weeks? It'll be interesting to see if I have a draft I can bear to send off in time for the Sunday deadline that got me started on this piece.

Lots of people write a short story a week. I could write a short story that fast, but I don't know if I could write a good short story that fast. I've tried enough sprinting to know I'm better in the marathon.

New Rugosa story you say?

It turned out to need more time simmering than that deadline allowed, but I'm very happy with how it's shaping up now. Sebastian sets up his tattooing tent at festival; wacky hijinks ensue. It's a story about body modification, invocation, and sacramentality, with the usual snarky-yet-affectionate dialogue, New Jersey local color, and supernatural comedy we've come to expect from the Rugosa Coven characters. I'm hoping to bring it in under 8,000 words, preferably before the end of July because I'd like to get back to the Little Book before the summer ends.
