Closing Arguments will be coming out as an e-book on May 5th. Now that it's an event with an actual date attached, it's starting to feel much more real. We still need to arrange for blurbs, send copies to reviewers, and...oh dear, I finally need to turn all that stuff I took notes about at all those How To Promote Your Book panels into some kind of coherent game plan.

Don't mind me, I'm just hyperventilating.

Okay, much better now.

Meanwhile, I have my beautiful cover art to look at. One of the things that drew me to Drollerie Press in the first place was the consistently high quality of their cover art. I'm delighted to be sending my story out into the world wearing this image.

and the cover art is awesome!

uhm... now the techno-neanderthal asks the huge noob question...
how does one get an eBook? how do you buy it..? where from..? and how do you read it..? (meaning do I have to have a special program to read it?)

Congrats!!

I haven't played with e-book technology much yet, either, but so many people have asked how to buy and read my book, I'm going to have to get much better informed.

The short answer for people who only want to dip a toe into the e-book pool, as far as I've figured it out, is that you'll be able to buy Closing Arguments directly from Drollerie Press (http://www.drolleriepress.com/) as an Adobe PDF. From looking at the format listings on Fictionwise (http://www.fictionwise.com/home.html), which seems to be the biggest of the e-book retailers, I get the impression that the PDF format has the print option disabled, in which case you'd have to read it on your computer screen.

A long answer about e-books in general might start with the Fictionwise FAQ collection (http://www.fictionwise.com/help/help.htm), but I haven't digested it all yet. I'm going to register and then play around with downloading free e-books, in hopes of developing a clue. (Of course, there's no guarantee that Fictionwise will decide to offer my e-book, but I think that's where clue is to be found.)

I'll post more about this closer to the release date.

Your book will be up on Fictionwise in all the formats they offer. It will also be available from the DP bookshop, and the PDF will be printable. It should even be available on Amazon for the Kindle.

A clue! Thank you. I needed one. I'd been meaning to ask about that stuff, but I wanted to hold off until Friday.

I hope your appearance here means you're feeling better.

Nice cover art. I like the little guy at the bottom of the page (Could it be the Black Head of Atho?). The Post-It note is perfect, of course. I am eagerly waiting for the next Rugosa coven installemnt as soon as it is written--but Closing Arguemnts is my favorite of the ones already written.

The little guy is the terra cotta Horned God figure Sophie made, the one that lives in the yew tree shrine. I like the way it looks a little like my description of the Head of Atho, too. When I wrote Closing Arguments, Atho was nowhere to be found on the internet, but now somebody has put up the full entry (http://www.geocities.com/covenofathos/Atho.html) from Doreen Valiente's ABC of Witchcraft, complete with her sketch. Atho may or may not be real, but I didn't make him up.

The Post-it Note is so subtle, I didn't recognize it at first. Viewed at thumbnail size, it just looks like a block of contrasting color to set off the title.

One of the things I love about the cover is that it shows how completely Deena gets the story. So often, you hear authors lamenting that their cover art has nothing to do with the stories they've told. I feel very lucky.
