This is a hard year for charities, for the same reason it's a hard year for all of us, even some of the lucky ones among us. Dan and I have hesitated to make our usual annual plug for the MS Society because so many people we know are really feeling the economic downturn, and we've had to cut way back on our own charitable giving habits.

That said, Multiple Sclerosis is a really awful illness, and the MS Society is doing some really important work to make life better for the people who struggle with it. Sounds like fun. I'm not familiar with that author, but I'm always on the lookout for stuff my younger tutoring students might like. I'll have to check it out.

Here's another suggestion - we are reading aloud as a family a book called Dark Hills Divide. It is a series about the Land of Elyon that is a great fantasy series for kids. We're all enjoying it and I'm having a hard time not skipping ahead on the reading!
