I'm really surprised at still being in the running. I haven't had a 3k day in over a year, and I'm going to have to break 3k over the next 3 days to be sure of getting there on the 30th.
You might get there. Remember, one reason I've been so slow is that, for a year, my big revision task was to cut down a book that was too long. Every single day, I asked myself, rather ritualistically, "How can I make this book shorter?" It's really hard to turn around in just one month and ask, every day, "How can I make this book longer?"
You have plenty to overcome, what with your teaching job and all, but I don't think you're out of the running. Good luck!
In my less realistic daydreams of widespread appeal, there are so many people at the book signings, they have to stand in line or there'll be a riot. But you, if you are in Jersey, will not be at any old book signing. You, if you are still in Jersey, will be at my house for the friends-and-family book party potluck. Because, without having to fight the evil Robot Wayne Newton, I would probably have dropped out in Week 2.
Wayne Newton wasn't the only decisive factor, but really, I had made up my mind that I was done with Nano back in the mid-20s, and you undecided me about that.
I've found that writing dialogue, no matter how mundane, tends to pump up that old WC. Yesterday, I did 3560, although I probably worked ten hours to do it. I've always thought of myself as a slow writer, so most of my NaNo output has been simply amazing. I probably passed the 50k magic mark, at least unofficially, but I'll keep cranking it out and, hopefully, cross over at the end with lots of others. Part of the experience for me has been posting and reading about the Nano-life of others. Keep it coming!
