Ladies and Gentlemen, Place Your Bets

It's no longer a recurring headache I get most days, off and on. It's now a non-stop headache I wake up with. Throw in achy finger joints and dizzy spells. I have a guess or two about what my doctor will probably conclude. Thursday afternoon, an answer might arise. I'm betting on Lyme.

Plays havoc with my concentration, let me tell you. So far, I can still slide into teacher-mind and give my students the good work they deserve, but I'm not useful for a whole lot else this week. It occurs to me that a moment may come when I won't be able to slide into teacher-mind, either. The moment I'm really hoping doesn't come is a moment when I stop being able to drive.

Dizzy spells probably mean this shouldn't be the week I get back into riding lessons. Damn and blast.

I am currently awaiting the test results for my own Lyme test, because of dizziness, fatigue, and joint aches.

I feel your pain.

Good luck! Here's hoping it's something easily banished by modern medicine.

the cdc says probably.

[identity profile] rednikki.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, no! Oh, man. I'm so very sorry to hear that.

[identity profile] vgnwtch.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, shit. I hope you and [livejournal.com profile] sleepymaggie get all the right help at all the right points. T's Dad got medication right at the outset, and he's absolutely fine, so I am optimistic.

I'll keep you in my prayers, and hope you're feeling better soon!

[identity profile] tyellas.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, here's hoping all is curably diagnosed soon.

[identity profile] happy-dr-friend.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Hope you feel better soon. Lyme disease is a distinct possibility from what you've said. Unfortunately, so are other exotic autoimmune diseases. Does any autoimmune disease run in your family? And just for paranoia's sake, could I suggest a pregnancy test? Pregnancy can have very unexpected symptoms.

[identity profile] dr-pretentious.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
My mother's the only one in the family with autoimmune diseases, but she's got...let's see...lupus, sarcoidosis, and rheumatoid arthritis, and some wacky symptoms that the good folks at Bethesda Naval Hospital haven't figured out yet that might point to yet more interesting diagnoses.

A pregnancy test. Hm. That would be the crowning irony, wouldn't it? If after years of grueling infertility treatments, when we finally took a break for insurance bureaucracy, we were to accomplish conception and then mistake it for Lyme disease... I like that story best. Here's hoping.

I'll cross my fingers and press my thumbs for you. Let us know how things come out, if it isn't too invasive?

[identity profile] dr-pretentious.livejournal.com 2006-10-26 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I won't leave everyone in unnecessary suspense, I promise.

Please remember that I'm 5 minutes away and frequently home, okay? I have a few appointments that might delay me, but whatever you need, it's worth trying anyway. Errand, ride, someone to sit with you while you're feeling awful -- whatever. Just call. (Cell is best, but call my home number if I don't answer (but leave a message anyway) -- my cell reception at home is spotty.

I'm hoping that Thursday will get me a clear enough answer, things will start turning around soon, but if I need help, I will absolutely call you. Many thanks.

{{very gentle non-ache producing hugs}}

Is there some sort of tick infestation in NJ that the CDC should be aware of? It seems there are an excessive # of people who I know in NJ who have contracted Lyme disease this year.

No more frollicking in the woods!

[identity profile] dr-pretentious.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
My guess is that, if it's Lyme, I caught it in upstate New York, where the woodsy branch of my family lives. I had two big family events to go to in September--a funeral in the Adirondacks, and a wedding in a state park in Rochester. Since I was dressed for the occasions, rather than for hiking, I didn't give any thought to tick protection. Frolic is probably okay, as long as one is wearing the right socks.

May it be pregnancy and not Lyme disease. Or some freaky auto-immune thingy.

Good luck and many hugs and prayers....

[identity profile] sleepymaggie.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This is really sad, but I'm actually hoping for the lyme (for myself at least). That way it's something relatively curable and diagnosable.

[identity profile] dr-pretentious.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I know how that goes. Some years ago, when I got the chronic pain diagnosed, that was a big improvement over the other things it might have been.

*sympathy and good vibes*

[identity profile] jaime-sama.livejournal.com 2006-10-25 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That stinks. May it be quickly diagnosed and quickly cured. Let me know if I can do anything.

[identity profile] sabrinamari.livejournal.com 2006-10-26 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Dear gods...will check in with Jen and then you. What's happening? Why are so many people I love getting Lyme? Is it so prevalent in NJ?
